Mission Statement:
The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.  The League of Women Voters does not support or oppose any political party or candidate.  The League recognizes that varied perspectives are necessary for responsible and effective decision making and actively seeks to be inclusive.

Summer Luncheon

Julia Albarracin, WIU Political Science professor, will be the featured speaker at the annual League of Women Voters summer luncheon at noon on Wednesday, July 8, at Aurelio's private dining room. Dr. Albarracin was recently honored as the recipient of the Dan and Laura Webb Endowed Professorship for her research and writing on how immigrants have adjusted to life in rural Illinois. Her speech will focus on how well Mexican immigrants have engaged in the life of the communities where they settled. Her book on the topic will be published by Michigan State University Press in 2016.

The public is invited to attend this luncheon meeting which includes all-you-can-eat pizza, salad, beverage and dessert for $12. The speech will begin about 12:30.
